2. We make a difference
Members help each other understand the priorities, concerns and needs of the diversity of parents in the community, and how the connection between early childhood programs could be improved to better meet the needs of families parenting young children.
3. Meet people who share your concerns
We all share a common bond. We care about creating the best possible experiences for the early development and education of our youth. We are neighbors and peers who share many of the same experiences which will bring us closer together and create lasting friendships.
4. We pledge to honor your time constraints
The parent coalition is made up of people just like you—with real life going on. We know you are busy; that’s why we know “one size fits all” won’t work when it comes to participation. There are electronic members who stay in touch with what’s going on through email all the way up to GSC parent members who actively serve on both the Parent Coalition and the Great Start Collaborative.
5. Access to professional development
Members are given opportunities to expand their leadership skills through professional development and peer-to-peer learning experiences. A Parent Coalition offers parents access to current research and information about early childhood learning and development, and basic parenting skills.
1. Your child benefits
Research shows parent involvement in early childhood makes a difference. Involvement at the preschool level has a number of lifelong benefits, such as helping children get ready to enter school, promotes school success, and promotes success in adult life.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN THE GREAT START COLLABORATIVE?
Are you a parent, service organization, business leader, school, individual community member, or other stakeholder in Barry County who is dedicated to the success of our youngest citizens and is focused on system change? If so, then we encourage you to become a member.
We welcome parents and other community members who are dedicated to work to increase parent involvement in education and in early childhood planning and decision-making for Barry County to join Barry Great Start Parent Coalition. Here are some reasons why:
The purpose of the Barry Great Start is to assure a coordinated system of community resources and supports to help all Barry County families provide a great start for their children from birth to age eight. We support the development of a local early childhood system and ensure parent leadership and voice. Barry Great Start consists of the Great Start Collaborative (GSC) and the Great Start Parent Coalition (GSPC).
